Session Meeting on September 17, 2018


The meeting was called to order by Rev. Jim Gates at 06:30 P.M. and Bob Warner opened with a devotion and prayer.   Chris Jelen, Bob Warner, Bob Gebauer, Jeff Gramling, Gary Freels, Sharon Maltbey, Mary Fraaza, Lori Kibler, Julie Nelson, Kari Kufahl and Joanne Lapinske were present.

Minutes from the previous Session Meetings were approved.

Rolls and Registers:
Membership stands at 566.  Motion carried for permission to Baptize Chloe Bramann daughter of Cody and Sarah Bramann on October 7, 2018.

Treasure’s Report: 
Our YTD giving has a net surplus of $9,735 as compared to the YTD Budget of $4,824.  Our mortgage balance is now $337K compared to $428 LY. 

Capital Campaign Committee/ Long Range Planning:
The construction company, Image Builders, has begun construction of the new covered entrance which includes a new office and welcome center.  The area directly below the original Sanctuary is well underway as well.  The deconstruction of the floor area in the old Sanctuary and the ceiling in the hall between Fellowship Hall and the entrance to the current Welcome Center will begin in the coming days.  Completion of the covered entrance is planned before cold weather sets in.

Pastor’s report:   
The start of our I.D. programs exceeded our expectations in attendance across all age groups.  As previously announced, Deb Perrin has accepted the position of our Choir Director for both adults and children.  A motion carried to offer the position of Hand Bell Choir Director to Ruth Wrysinski.  The search for our Youth Director continues, and the search firm we are using will have candidates for us to interview within the next week.  We also have two internal candidates for the position which will be included in the interview process.

L.I.F.E begins Wednesday September 19th with a meal at 5:30 and programs to start at 6:00.  The adult class curriculum with be “Jump Start your Heart” and we have two different children’s classes, one taught by Bob and Melanie Hocker, and one by Amanda Fuls and Lori Kibler.

Jim announced the final plans for the Israel Holy Land Tour scheduled for October 26 – November 4, 2019.  This is hosted by Zack Shavin’s Land of Israel Custom Tours at a cost (not including air fare) of $2065 for a double room or $2,860 for a single.  The ideal number to have on the tour would be 30 people.  If interested, please let Jim Gates know as soon as possible.  Brochures are available for this exciting tour.

The Presbytery Meeting will be held on 10/20/18, in Appleton.  Bob Warner and Jim Gates will be attending.  Any Ordained Elders not currently serving on Session who would be interested in attending should let Jim know before the October Session Meeting.

The annual Session retreat is scheduled at St. Anthony’s in Marathon City on November 16th through the 17th.


The budget committee and the stewardship committees have begun their work for next year.  The stewardship campaign will begin on 10/7/19 and conclude with Commitment Sunday on 11/4/18.

CE – Two motions from the CE committee were approved by the Session.  1. Roster of I.D. teachers, youth leaders and adults volunteering for Parents Night Out.  2. Increase budget to cover expense associated with expanded background checks for all teaches and volunteers working with our youth in any capacity.

Deacons – Greg James reported on the S.E.C.R.E.T. Agent program will begin Sunday 9/23.  A full completement of students and adults have been signed up, and the children began wearing their name tags on Sunday 9/9.

All other Committees:  Minutes of those meetings were accepted by the Session and are available for review in the church office.
